Moon is a Failure, but keeps turning...
Moon is a Failure

"Wandering the streets of Paris,
no one remembers the moon and other failures"
P. D. Reeve
"The Moon and Other Failures"

Moon's a failure, the poet complains
A fraud, a cheat, a fake
A troublesome pain
Unnoticed along the Seine
Best hidden in Paris rain
For God a huge mistake
You're a failure, the poet complains,
And also a fraud and a fake.

Moon Triumphant

Moon grins complacently
She's shown the world
What she can do
Blow out the sun if she wants

Admittedly time and place predicted
Not here actually, but in Cornwall
Weird rocky Celtic place
Yet even the Pope moon-gazed

Moon graciously bows out
Chastened the sun comes back
Moon has had her day
Last in this millennium

Yet she doesn't scare anyone
With these ingenious tricks
with few exceptions
Superstitious Celts we're not

A rock gets in the -way
Of a ball of exploding gas
Big deal, 0 conceited moon
Not even a surprise

Yet in our depths
Eclipses are a little scary
Awe and wonder persist, beauty too
Which, moon, is why She created you.
