Background: Wise bridesmaids These “virgins” were in fact brides maid, teenage kids. This wedding was a big deal, it must have been if there going to be ten bridesmaids. The groom’s family was a bit snooty, but the bride won them over with accounts of all the preparations for the wedding. There would be teen young women, all striking beauties, she assured them, who would greet the wedding parted with burning lamps. It would be a really big deal. The groom was impressed with his bride’s eagerness to please and congratulated her. Then his family arrived and there only five, two on each side and one in the back. The bride began to cry. He cheered her up as best he good and gave his snooty mother a dirty look which warned her to be quiet. But when the rest of the bridal attendants, breathless and weary from rushing, he said, no way. Forget about it. This is one of the parables of urgency we will hear during the summer: you have great opportunities, don’t blow them. |

Story: "Only idiots make proposal plans", said a certain young man, who was planning a surprise birthday party for a young woman he hoped to marry. In fact, he planned to ask her to marry him at the beginning of the party and give her the biggest diamond in all the world (well it WAS a little bit excessive). He persuaded one of the friends, the putative woman of honor at the expected wedding, to lead her over to his house for the party. Only the young woman was tired and in a bad mood because her boyfriend had cancelled a date that night. She told her friend that she was going home, making herself a martini, taking a nice hot shower, and going right to bed. No way did she want to go anywhere. Well, that sounded like solid advise, so she followed it herself. At least one certain young man was surprised in the end. . Psalm 33:1,12,18-22 1 Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits
the upright.
